My practice explores identity and belonging through the body, memory, materials and cultural narratives. I am interested in how identities are shaped by the relationships, environments and communities to which we belong.
Although my practice has moved across drawing, installation and textile, I repeatedly return to drawing. Its slow, meticulous and demanding nature forces me to confront my own limits and to engage with the artwork with a particular degree of honesty and attention. Hybrid forms and displaced symbols allow me to explore the boundaries between the human and the non-human, the self and the other, and the intimate and the collective.
Research is central to my practice, drawing on natural history, taxonomy, and anthropology to question how we classify, understand and construct identity.
